Newton Newborn Photographer

Since I began, I’ve always been an on-location photographer. That means I don’t own a studio and I’ve trained my brain to think quickly and adapt to new situations and environments on an almost daily basis. My entire portfolio is filled with sessions that I have photographed in people’s homes, but inevitably I always am asked if I shoot in a studio. Hard to believe it, but these are 100% authentic, unstyled homes that real people live in! Every home isn’t straight out of a blog, so don’t be afraid of an in-home session if your house is dark and cluttered. Your home is the space you’ve made for your family and there are memories within those walls. A studio has none of those feelings as they try to make it as generic as possible. 100% if that is the style you are drawn to, you will not get that affect at home so please do reach out to a studio photographer. But if you are in love with this at home lifestyle sessions I’m known for, please check out the below newborn images and be sure to reach out. This nursery is of course absolutely breathtaking, so I had a lot of fun making the most of this Newton newborn session at home.

The Family

This is the 4th time I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this wonderful family. The first time there was a large family reunion in town and they invited me to document their time together. It was absolutely magical and we even had some snow! The second time grandmom if this darling baby girl came to town with her family and wanted to capture that time together as well. The 3rd was a maternity session by the Charles. It was a petite add-on to this Baby 1 Year package. For more information on my Baby 1 Year package, please see my newborn magazine and pricing page.

Newborn Images in Nursery

Completely modernized inside, this Newton home had gorgeous windows that allowed natural light to flood right in. They were worried about getting the nursery ready in time, so I was picturing Tupperware and Amazon boxes everywhere. Imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw this. I hope you’ll love sweet Ellery’s images. She really made me work for it as she slept about 30 minutes during her session. She was very alert and quite strong. This will give you a sense of a session that didn’t necessarily go to ‘plan’ but was still perfect in its own way. We got so many great expressions as a result! As a photographer working with newborns, you just need to go with the flow.

They requested something very specific in their questionnaire so I was able to prepare mentally for it. I work in people’s homes but I am able to create a makeshift mini studio for detail photos of just the newborn if you have a sentimental heirloom you wanted to incorporate. I just need to know ahead of time in your newborn questionnaire that I send to you upon booking and signing your contract.

They wanted to incorporate baby girl’s great-grandfather into the session. This is what we created.

I hope you loved the images we created in a single room in Newton for this newborn session. There is a lot I can do in a space. Home is where you’ve put so much love and thought into, so why not have your family session there?

Newborn Family Film

Since Ellery was so awake it was hard to get as much variety with poses, but I was so pleased with what we were able to create. It’s all because of this wonderful family that was patient and trusted me entirely. I am so thankful we met. I seriously get to know the BEST people.

Since I had less ‘free’ time to create film because of the constant feeds and soothing, this film isn’t as comprehensive as I would have liked, but I love it anyway. It tells her story and that’s what the film was meant to capture.

Please enjoy little Ellery’s newborn film during her Newton Newborn Session at home. I can’t wait to share her next one when that time comes.

Newton Newborn Lifestyle Session at Home

Lifestyle At Home Newborn Session

This entire session was photographed in a single room. We don’t need a lot of space to create several unique looks. I do require good light and trusting parents. This single room at home newborn session came out absolutely stunning. The key to a great session is light. There doesn’t have to be a lot of windows in your space, but do know that this will dictate the overall feel of your session. Obviously a room with smaller windows will have a darker and more dramatic lighting than a bright and airy room. Before each session, I request families to send photos of their home to me so that I can plan to use different aspects of your furniture. The colour coordinating of wraps also comes into play here. I send a thorough questionnaire to each of the families so I can get a sense of your aesthetic, as well as what drew you to my work. In this questionnaire, there will be a link to the wraps that I own so that I can supplement what you already have, or we can choose to use what you already have at home. For each session, I choose 1 main wrap to start the session. If the baby is not fussy, we may have an opportunity to change to a second wrap, but as you can see below a single wrap can fill a gallery beautifully. It’s not about a fashion show of changing wraps, but rather a focus on the interaction between family. This is what’s meaningful to me for an in-home newborn session.

Alexa and Evan

New mom Alexa and new dad Evan welcomed their precious baby girl just a week after their new nursery was complete. The gorgeous work on display is the work of Amanda Reid from Mandarina Studio.

Alexa and I emailed several times before our session. This was to determine a look for the session. She really wanted to feature the newly completed nursery, but also include the family pup Duke. As you can see below, I think it all came together perfectly.  Baby girl didn’t really sleep during much of the session, but we took the opportunity to do some reading time, feedings and cuddles between cries. My absolute favourite, of course, is the featured outtake image of the session.

See the images we created below.

People always ask if their pets can come to the session. My answer is of course! Safety first and every pet reacts differently to a new member. Best to feel it out the day of.

When babies sleep this is when I can create my signature posed newborn images.

Babies have to be asleep for posed images like the one above for safety. I give a prep tip sheet to create the best environment for a newborn session when you book with me.

Mother feeding her newborn with a bottle as father looks on.

These sessions last about 2.5 hours not because of the adults, but rather to allow for enough time to settle the baby and for feedings. I do not want to ever rush a session and leave if the baby is fussy. Babies run the show. I am just there to observe and capture the moments.
