Looking for a New England wedding videographer? Here are some recommendations for teams I’ve worked well with in the Boston and surrounding areas. If you’re a vendor I’ve worked with, please reach out! I’m always adding to my referral lists!
Decide on the type of coverage you want
There are two types of video coverage available in 2025. Traditional coverage is full service: a trailer, short form film, long form film, and extra footage (add-ons are usually purchased separately).
Traditional wedding videography services focus on capturing a wedding day in a classic and structured style. This type of service typically involves a videographer recording the key moments of the event in chronological order, from pre-ceremony preparations to the ceremony itself, followed by the reception highlights.
The videographer is present to capture the essential parts of the day, such as:
- The bride and groom getting ready
- The wedding ceremony, including vows and the exchange of rings
- Speeches or toasts
- The first dance
- Cake cutting
- Guest interactions and dancing
There are two distinct styles of coverage:
- Traditional wedding videos are usually edited to present a straightforward documentary-style narrative, often featuring continuous footage of events as they happened. This approach avoids cinematic techniques like dramatic slow motion, creative angles, or storytelling enhancements, instead prioritizing a comprehensive record of the day.
- Creative or trailer-focused cinematographers sometimes require alone time with you to create snippets that are more creative and directed. This extra time has to be worked into your timeline as video and photo cannot happen simultaneously.
Final products are commonly delivered as a full-length video, typically ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, and may include added music or subtle transitions to maintain a polished flow. Many offer trailers or next week edits that are like teasers of your wedding day.
Cost for wedding videographers in New England
The cost of hiring a wedding videographer in the New England area varies based on factors like the videographer’s experience, the length of coverage, and the specific services included. Here’s a general overview to help you plan your budget:
- Average Cost: Nationally, couples spend between $1,000 and $2,500 on wedding videography, with an average around $1,799. WeddingWire. However, these national averages tend to be focused on large wedding-mill type companies. I always recommend my couples to choose a small business that can provide a guaranteed product and service. Similar to photography, you get what you pay for. Many big companies charge less, but you don’t get to pick your videographer. They will generally source locally at the last minute; whoever is “left” isn’t necessarily the best. They offer below-market wages to fill these positions. As a vendor on New England networks online, we often see posts to fill these positions about 1-2 weeks prior to the event and they cast based on whoever agrees to a low hourly rate. Expect to spend $3000-$10000 as a video team comes with 2-3 operators usually, and sound is a big consideration that you should verify the quality of.
Factors Influencing Cost:
- Coverage Time: Longer coverage increases costs.
- Number of Videographers: Additional shooters add to the price.
- Final Product: Deliverables like highlight reels, full-length films, or raw footage affect pricing.
- Extras: Services such as drone footage or same-day edits can increase costs.
Recommended vendors for New England and Boston-based Videographers
These are teams that I’ve had great working experiences with, and I don’t hesitate to recommend! They are team players, are not obtrusive, and deliver quality products.
Wedding Knot Films – He’s since moved out of town, but travels to the New England area. I’ve worked with him in 2024 so this is still true. Diego is kind, caring and hard-working. He delivers beautiful work and hires local videographers to round out his team. Here is a wedding that we worked on together and you can see his finished film on his website portfolio.
Caddigan Films – Anthony is based in New Hampshire, but available for travel (I’ve worked with them on Boston jobs). Super-swell guy that’s easy to work with and helpful. He’s been the only videographer that’s reached out to me before a gig to see how I work to ensure we could work in synergy.
SP_Films – Great team that are a lot of fun! I photographed an event with them in Maine and I’m sure they’re willing to travel in and around New England.
New in 2024/2025 and beyond: Content creators
Something new to consider if you’re looking for something more discrete, budget-friendly and instant. While a full video will take 3+ months to deliver, content creators were created for instant gratification. This way, you can share your video with those who could not attend and immediately relive your special day within a week of your wedding.
Content creators are a relatively new field, so look at portfolios to ensure you like their style. Things to consider are transitions between clips, the movement of the camera itself, edit style and last but not least sound quality. Video is shot on phones and in a format suitable to share on social media. This isn’t something you would watch on your TV, etc as the dimensions are not landscape.
A content creator, in the context of weddings, is more focused on creating short, social media-friendly videos and photos for immediate use. They’re typically hired to generate trendy, real-time content for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook.
Key Features:
- Style: Emphasizes quick, fun, and modern clips (10-60 seconds) or snapshots with viral appeal.
- Approach: Works actively during the day to capture behind-the-scenes moments, creative transitions, and short highlights that fit the couple’s social media aesthetic.
- Tools: Often uses a smartphone or lightweight equipment, favoring mobility and adaptability for creating content on the go.
- Final Product: Delivers content quickly, often within 24-48 hours (sometimes even the same day) to keep up with the fast pace of social media.
This service is perfect for couples who want to share their wedding day in real-time or shortly after, focusing on casual, fun, and shareable content. This does not replace a videographer and is a different product altogether.
Recommended vendors for social media content creators
Here is a list of wedding content creators I’ve worked with in the past. Please do your own due diligence and sometimes I haven’t seen the final product and their styles are constantly changing. It’s so new that I haven’t met many, but wanted to provide a resource for my couples!
Fyr by Jess – very kind and unobtrusive! Shared her content pretty immediately after the event and created different versions based on couple’s feedback.
Caroline Caroleton Socials – One of the first content creators I’ve worked with. She brought a team of 2 others to assist. I haven’t seen the final product but seemed professional managing her team.
Summary when looking for a New England Wedding Videographer or content creator
Check their portfolios to see how they cover a day. Find about their sound and equipment if speeches are important to you. One limitation with going with a social media content creator is they don’t have the high-end sound recording equipement that videographers are well-versed with. New England Wedding Videographers have many years of experience in troubleshooting issues and dealing with equipment failures through redundancies. If sound is important to you, ensure your choice professional has systems and failsafes in place to keep your precious memories safe.
