The ICA has a stunning waterfront location which we chose to showcase this talented senior’s dance abilities. I worked in advance to understand her interests and she brought a lot of ideas to the table as well. We went through her wardrobe options and also got a sense of the things she was able to do in terms of dance. I wanted a clean backdrop, but also signature Boston since this is where she was raised. This Boston senior session came together better than I could have imagined because of her hard work and dedication leading up to the session as well as throughout the 2.5 hour creative session itself.
A bit about this senior
I have had the pleasure of watching Z grow from a young girl into the talented young woman you will see in these images. I began my business many moons ago and her mother found me to photograph their family when I was just starting out. Since then she’s kept in touch and has been an ardent supporter of my work. We’ve watched each other grow in our families and our businesses.
It was such an honour that when her daughter was about to be a senior in high school she reached out to inquire about senior photography sessions. This was my very first senior session so I took it very seriously and wanted to get it just right. I knew Z was as dancer since I followed her family on social media. I immediately focused on that as the main thread of our session. She sent me some photos of her wardrobe options and at the very last moment (the night before), her mom posted a beautiful sari outfit that they wore to a wedding and I was inspired to incorporate this cultural outfit into our session. I am always on the look out for unique aspects of storytelling as this makes the session more personal.
The Boston Senior Photography Session
I am absolutely in love with how we were both able to infuse our passions into this project. I wanted to do something creative with light and just photography techniques. During the stress of a wedding, or a toddler session I don’t normally get the opportunity to play or experiment. With Z on the same page as I was, and the longer session time, we were both able to adjust poses, and repeat moves until we were both satisfied with the in camera image. I hope you will love these images as well.
